AWARDs AND RECOGNITIONS

 

Description: The Ron Payne Legacy Award is a recognition sponsored and presented by the North Carolina Chapter of the American School Band Directors Association to outstanding retired ASBDA band directors.


Purpose: The purpose of the Ron Payne Legacy Award is to honor the career achievements and service of now retired ASBDA band directors who continue to promote the ASBDA mission of fostering music education.


Criteria: Candidates for the ASBDA Ron Payne Legacy Award must:


  1. -have made significant contributions to school bands during a distinguished career and continues to do so during retirement

  2. -have been retired for at least five years

  3. -have been an active ASBDA member and a continuing dues paying member, either retired or affiliate

  4. -have had a distinguished career prior to retirement, which included service to bands

  5. -have had continued involvement by providing leadership and other meaningful value to school bands, their directors, and to the profession as a whole


Application Process: Candidates for the ASBDA Ron Payne Legacy Award are nominated by application.  Applications must be submitted to the State Chair by the spring meeting at NCBA Honors Band.  Candidates are voted upon by the chapter members present at the spring meeting.  Awards will be presented the following November at the NCMEA Convention during the NCBA General Business Meeting.
